One of those middle of the night moments

It's 3:30 am.  I'm having a night where I can't sleep.  H comes walking out of his room and asks if it is morning or is it night?  I tell him it's still night.  We curl up in the big brown chair with a blanket.  I ask if he wants me to come lay by him.  He says no, his bed isn't comfortable.  I ask if he wants me to sing to him.  He nods.  What do you want me to sing?  'Whatever' ( he has to say this three times and the third time extra slow before I understand.)  I start to sing a lullaby from a movie.  He changes his mind and says he wants a primary song so I start to sing 'I love to see the temple'.  He lays in my arms and smiles the whole time.  When the song is over I tell him I'm so glad he's part of my forever family.  He says, "I'm so glad you're my mommy.  Do you know why you're the smartest?"  No. "Just because you're smart."  I wish I could record his face when he says these things.  He moves so many facial muscles and has the most adorable expressions.  These moments totally make up for an insomnia night.

Can't we just switch?

Today was the start of G's Spring Break.  We had various activities planned (gym, library time, meet dad for lunch).  By the time we got to lunch with K, I needed a kid break.  K jokingly said, 'Do you want to switch?  You go back to work for me and I'll spend the rest of the day with the kids.'

You know what, I really, really wanted to.  I love my children so much, but I wish it were possible for me and K to just switch places for a day.  It would give me a break and it would give K more time with the kids.  Do you think anyone at his work would notice?

2:07 am

G just came into our room saying he'd had a dream about scary things.  "And...I lost a slipper."  This last statement almost made him cry.  That boy loves his slippers.

I told him to climb in and cuddle with us.  He put his head on K's pillow and his hand on K's back.  I love that he draws comfort and strength from his daddy.

After a few minutes I asked if he was ok.  He said, "Yes, but could we say a prayer or something, but I want to keep my eyes open."  He asked me to say it so I did.   He is now in his own bed, hopfully having a peaceful rest.

He told me I was 'a great mom' for him.  I only hope I can live up to that statement.  He's a pretty awesome kid.
