Lunch

G really wanted to buy school lunch today,  I've been avoiding that because I don't think he will eat them well, but he so badly wanted to 'order' lunch today and they had hamburgers as a choice so I sent him with his $1.75 and just hope he actually eats something.  Since G was 'ordering' lunch today, H and I decided we'd better head to chick fil a and get the last veggie tales story cd.  While we were there we ordered lunch too.

*G did not do well with school lunch.  He said he only ate a few bites of his hamburger, a few fries and forgot to get the fruit and vegetable entirely.  Sigh.  Back to the sandwiches.

Something new

I played volleyball tonight.  Ok, pick your jaws up off the floor so I can continue my story.  It may well have been the first time I have played since middle school gym class.  Why?  Because I hate volleyball.  It takes me back to the small gym and glasses and balls slamming into my face.  I know, I know, you're supposed to hit the ball.  I've just never been very cooridinated ok?

Anyway, I went tonight because a friend cajoled me and I figured I'd better at least give it a try once before I decided to write it off forever.  You know, since I tell my kids to do stuff like that.  It was mostly fun.  I got a few good hits that surprised me.  I only ducked and cowered twice (maybe three times). There was one person on our team who made it kind of not fun, because she wouldn't even smile and was bossy to everyone else and got frustrated when we messed up, but we decided to try to have fun anyway.  I enjoyed being there with everyone else, but I'm not sure i'm ready to make this a regular activity.  I did still get hit in the face, but at least I don't wear glasses anymore.

In his words

Every day I ask G about school and what happened and I get very short answers with not very much information.  Grandma Marta had the brilliant idea of writing G an email and asking him to write her back.  He was much more willing to dictate to me and I learned so much more about his first day doing that than asking him questions. So here is his first day in his own words.

Dear Grandma Marta,
It was good at kindergarten. I made new friends, Pricilla, Olivia, Cashton, Makenna was an old friend and Aeryn was an old friend. And there was Elijah, not the old friend Elijah, a new friend Elijah. And there was Ms Hall, was my teacher.
Mom fixed a sandwich. Ham and there were lots and lots of carrots, I just ate one. There is a Spongebob squarepants icepack. I really like to call him squarepants. and two kisses, one note and applesauce.
I did recess like they do, and then we played little games with coach Tim. and then we found out that there were wood chips after lunch. On my first day we were trying to spin, and guess what? I found some of my class putting wood chips on a spinner. One that you can stand on and get a real wheel. And hmmm....And there's a bell ringing and then we run to our spot. our spot is not the one with the smiley face. That's Mrs. Spragues class. Our class was right next to her class. Ours had no smiley face. It was just a regular hopscotch thingy. There was so much that we watched book felix. And we watched 'there was an old lady who swallowed a fly' and there was the great white man eating shark. and there was a sing a long about 'there was an old lady who swallowed a fly'. Guess what, she swallowed a horse and she died. That's what old ladies do when they swallow a horse. Normal never swallow a horse.
I love you very much and i've been thinking about you all day.
I like to see my storied written down. I will write again.

First day

It finally came! The first day of school. G was super chatty and spent the morning singing 'Good morning to you!' To everyone he saw. Then he lined up with his class and off he went. I didn't cry, but I thought about it. I'll probably think about it a lot today. I packed a love note in his lunch. I hope he has a fantabulous time.

Harvest time

This is what is keeping me busy today. I really love being able to preserve food. We're so lucky to have connections with people who are willing to share their bounty. On our most recent trip to Delta, G said he really wanted to go to a corn field and pick corn. Mom and Dad asked their neighbors and off we went! H fell asleep in the car so he missed tne whole thing. G enjoyed it until he noticed how muddy his shoes were getting. They had just recently irrigated so there was quite a lot of that. It was just another one of those experiences I was glad to be able to share with my kids. I also look forward tio eating the fruits of our labors this winter.

Cooking

The boys helped me make fried zucchini tonight. This pan they did all by themselves.
