DC again

I keep forgetting to take my camera places.   That may make for some very boring blog posts.

Yesterday, my dad took me to the airport while my mom stayed home with my boys.  I had been up late packing the night before and trying to fix the 'oops my plane ticket was in my husband's name not mine' problem.  But when I got to the airport, everything went smoothly.  My bag was 49 lbs (yeah no extra fees!) and I got through security with no issues.  I had a very nice chat with a lady who will be moving to Bountiful from Kansas soon.  I did have one moment when I went to the bathroom and could hear a mom in there with her little boy pretending to be a dog.  It made me miss my little ones.

I got on the plane and was lucky enough to have some space so I had a very comfortable flight.  I actually got to the Regan airport 30 minutes ahead of schedule.  I took my time getting off the plane, wandered over to the baggage area.  I had originally planned to wait there for K to pick me up but I was so early I started to consider the possibility of getting to the hotel on my own.  I hadn't wanted to before because he was staying somewhere different and I get nervous about stuff like that.  But I was feeling brave and thought I could get to the hotel before his classes got out.  This is important because K's cell phone had quit working a few days before and we couldn't really get in touch.  I tried to leave a message at the front desk of his hotel, but they refused to take one and just transferred me to his room.  I left a message there and one his cell in the hopes that he would pick up the replacement before coming to get me.  Long story short, he got out of class early, didn't get the messages and was looking for me at the airport while I was waiting in the lobby of his very secure hotel.  We eventually connected and he rode the metro back to me and wasn't even too mad.  My bad.

We walked to Chevy's and had some Mexican food for dinner then did a quick call to the boys before hitting the sack early.  We were both pretty tired.

This morning K had to get up early and get to class but I spent the morning lazing around, sleeping in and reading books.  We went to the cafeteria for lunch together and then he went back to class and I went back to my relaxing day of nothing.  Facebook and blogs were caught up on and I spent some time down in the fitness center.  It's just not the same exercising by myself.  I missed my class.

I did surprise K when he got back from class with some fancy sparkling lemonade (who knew you couldn't find sparkling cider in DC?) and then we got in touch with some friends and went out for dinner.  Dave and Abby picked us up and took us to a popular cash-only hamburger place called Ray's Hellburger.  It was SO busy, but really really good.  Then it was back to the hotel room to hang out and watch TV on the computer.  We're so exciting :).  Tomorrow we have a full day of touristy sight-seeing stuff planned so don't write us off as old fogies yet.

My Dates

Daddy has a Scout camp out tonight, so I dug through my collection of free kid's meal coupons and took the boys out to dinner.  We went to Sizzler because that was the only place G wouldn't throw a fit about when he found out we weren't going to McDonald's.  He only accepted that choice because, "I've only been there one time mom!  Not two, not three, not four, not even how many old I am.  Just one!" (insert appropriate hand slapping gestures for emphasis).   Sizzler it was.  I'm cool with that, they have a good salad bar.

It was a very busy place, even at 5.  I guess it's a popular choice on the weekend.  We had a ten minute wait in line to even get to the cashiers.  After making sure they still wanted to wait and not go somewhere else, I let them  play with the flashlight from my key chain.  It has a laser light pointer thingy on it that they think is hilarious.  We were really entertaining to the older couple behind us.

We eventually got to the cashiers, I handed them my free kids meal coupon (which had expired, but they took it anyway) and asked for a salad bar for me and said the kids would share the meal.  They asked how old H was and said he could have a free salad bar and drink so it worked out perfectly.

The boys munched on fruit while I got my salad, then I got H a plate full of random foods, just like he likes.  G's hamburger showed up and he downed the jello and french fries, eventually taking a bite or two of hamburger.  They were both so good.  It was really an enjoyable time for me in spite of the crazy busy atmosphere.  Our waitress would stop and chat with the boys cause she thought they were so cute, so H got silly and started showing off some of his 'skills' for her.  Which mostly means making silly faces with silly noises.  She thought they were hilarious.

We ended our meal with a little bit of ice cream from the dessert bar.  I think I'm pretty lucky to get to spend my time with such cute company.
