Testing

Last year at G's 2yr-old Dr appt my pediatrician detected a small heart murmur. She told me it could be attributed completely to growing since she hadn't detected one before but that just to be on the safe side I should take him in to get some testing done. She wrote me out an order and said, "Just sometime before his next appointment." That was on 12/5/2007. We just took him in Monday. Now don't think I'm a bad mom...when she told me this I was pregnant and she did play it down a lot like it wasn't a huge deal and not to freak out about it. So I didn't. I just procrastinated it...a lot. It just seemed so out of my comfort zone and I just didn't want to deal with it. Then we had the baby, it was the holidays, etc etc.

Fast forward to now. I finally decided that it just HAD to be done. G's 3 year appt had been delayed by a month and a half because of our job/insurance situation and I was running out of time. K has been working out of town and is usually only home on weekends. When he was unexpectedly home last Monday, I decided I should try and make it happen so I wouldn't have to do it alone with both boys. It turns out it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (isn't that always the case).

Everyone at Primary Children's was very nice. We were seen very quickly and G thought it was a cool adventure.
Here is G getting the 'cool stickers' on his chest for an EKG.

Showing off his super strong muscles while holding still for the test to run. After it was over and the stickers were removed he kept saying how he looked like a 'skeleton'. His brain absolutely amazes me.

Yep, theres some results on there...don't know what they mean, but they're there.

He also got a chest x-ray.

After the EKG and X-ray were both over he was given a gold coin for being so good and got to put the coin in the prize machine. He was pretty thrilled to get a little plastic crab and a black bead bracelet. K was like, "Didn't you show him the aliens and balls? Why did he pick the bracelet?" What can I say, it was at eye level and it looked cool.

All in all it was a very positive experience. It was nice to get something crossed off my list that has been at the back of my mind for over a year. Oh! By the way, our Pediatrician left a message on my phone today that said all the tests look normal! One less thing to worry about :)

I so glad everything is fine with him. And you are definately not a bad mom for putting it off, at least you remembered it and had him tested...

Glad everything turned out good. I know how you feel about putting things like that in the back of your mind. I have two running around in the back of mine as I type. I guess I need to just get ‘em done!

I'm glad everything looks good!

You are not a bad mom. If it had been urgent I'm pretty sure the pedi would have called to check-up on you.

(not trying to stalk you or anything from Facebook!) My youngest had to get all the heart murmur stuff taken care off too...at 2 months old. Tramatic times, but with positive results. He screamed the entire time.

I'm happy for you too. I had no idea you were even facing that! But glad it worked out well in the end.

I'm glad the experience at Primary's was a positive one, that K was able to be there, and that the results were good. It's no fun to have worries like that on the back burner of your mind for almost a year. Good for you for following through!
Hugs :-)

It's good to hear the tests were okay. His pictures are so cute. Having little ones can really make you humble and dependent on the Lord! Lo ve you all.
